My Story
Hello, my fellow Chaves County Residents! My name is Valerie Lopez and I am the Chairperson for the Chaves County Health Council. I was introduced to the Health Council in 2015 when I was working at NMDOH and have been active with it ever since. It was not until I joined the Health Council that I realized how valuable it was to be a part of a group that works together to make a better community. The Health Council and I are truly passionate about building our community to be the best place to live, work, and play.
I have a Master’s Degree in Social Work and currently licensed as a Master level Social Worker. I am the Director for the Family Resource Center (FRC), a project of Chaves County CASA Program. I provide direct supervision, training, and consultation to in home services practitioners who work hand in hand with families. I am married to the most amazing husband, proud momma of 4 beautiful women, grandmother to 7 precious grandchildren, and have the absolute best son-in-law, who is truly the son we never had. I also serve on the boards for WINGS for Life and Chaves County Behavioral Health Leadership Council.

The Chaves County Health Council is so excited to have this website to share information and resources. Although the Health Council has done amazing work for this community, such as implementing the 2-1-1 information line, the Chaves County Health Expo, and the MAZE of Life for all Chaves County 8th grade students – there is so much more work that needs to be done. I respectfully request you to join our Health Council to help us build a better community for all of Chaves County residents to live, work, and play!
